Swimming to Plymouth - Tate Exchange (2018)

An adaptation of swimming to Plymouth installed at the Blavatnik Building, Tate Modern. Using the personal perspective of wild swimmers, this installation includes performative swimming lessons accompanied by a sound and video work. The general aesthetic for the wider exhibition was cardboard, therefore design choices were made to suit this.

Whilst waiting for the next swimming lesson to start, the viewer is invited to hear a group of international swimmers talk about their intimate relationship with the sea in poem, 'I'm a wild swimmer'. A collection of photos taken by the swimmers to capture this relationship, are played on a screen.

A swimming timetable guide guides the viewer to scheduled lessons throughout the day for them to attend. These performative lessons focus on different swimming techniques throughout the day and become an exchange that encourages discussion around the wild swimming culture.
